The Kenneth R. Kurtzman Memorial Grant-in-Aid is established in memory of Kenneth and his dedication to his chosen profession. This scholarship is used to support deserving undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Architecture, College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley.
Kenneth was born in Los Angeles in 1965, and graduated from Palisades High School in 1983. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Department of Architecture, College of Environmental Design, University of California, Berkeley. After graduation, he was employed with the San Francisco firm of Brown, Raymond, Boulton, & Szabo, until his death in 1990. He was an intelligent, generous, gentle, and thoughtful man. His many interests included cooking, creative writing, the saxaphone, the French language, and enjoying the company of friends.
Kenneth's love of his chosen field was exemplified by his enthusiastic, professional attitude; by his dedication and hard work, both in college and the profession; and by the appreciation and admiration he earned from his associates. He felt that an accomplished professional in his field should be a capable communicator, and have a healthy respect for the history and preservation of architecture. Unfortunately, the brevity of his career prevented him from making the contribution he would have liked to have made in the field of architecture. It is hoped that those who are entrusted with this scholarship will use the opportunity provided to pursue fulfilling careers in architecture and design, and will maintain a high degree of professional integrity.
